Deep reasoning mode
A toggle that trades speed for a more thorough, carefully worked answer — best for multi-step questions across several parts of your back office.
Most questions get a fast, grounded answer. For the harder ones — where the Co-pilot has to reason across several records or think through a multi-step question — you can turn on deep reasoning. It takes longer and costs more, but it works the problem more carefully.
When to turn it on
- Multi-step questions that combine data from several areas — for example, comparing your bookkeeping totals against an upcoming tax obligation.
- "Explain the trade-off" questions where you want the reasoning laid out, not just a one-line fact.
- Anything ambiguous where a quick answer risks missing nuance and you'd rather the Co-pilot slow down and be thorough.
When to leave it off
For direct lookups — "What's my EIN?", "When is my annual report due?" — the standard mode is faster and just as accurate. Deep reasoning is meaningfully more expensive per message, so reach for it when the extra care actually pays off, not for simple facts.

Deep reasoning changes how hard the Co-pilot thinks, not where it gets its facts. Answers stay grounded in your data with the same citation chips — it just reasons over those records more carefully.
Toggle deep reasoning in the Co-pilot before sending your message, then press Cmd/Ctrl + Enter to send. Start with the standard mode and switch on deep reasoning only if the first answer doesn't go deep enough.
