Getting your EIN
Your federal tax ID, prepared on IRS form SS-4, submitted, and tracked to approval by the EIN agent.
An EIN — Employer Identification Number — is your company's federal tax ID in the US. You need it to open a bank account, activate a payment processor, hire, and file taxes. On FormBridge the EIN agent prepares it on IRS form SS-4, submits it, and tracks it all the way to approval.
How the EIN agent works
- 1Prepares your SS-4
The agent assembles IRS form SS-4 from your company and founder details — responsible party, entity type, and reason for applying — so the application is correct the first time.
- 2Submits to the IRS
The application goes to the IRS through the appropriate channel for your situation (this depends on whether you hold a US SSN or ITIN — see below).
- 3Tracks it to approval
The agent follows the application until the EIN is issued, and the number lands on your company page and in your Documents vault.
When you form a US entity, the EIN step is queued right behind it — you don't file separately. For non-US entities, an EIN may still be relevant if you have US tax touchpoints; the agent handles that case when it applies.
No US Social Security number?
You do not need a US SSN or ITIN to get an EIN. The path differs by situation, which is covered in detail in getting an EIN without an SSN or ITIN.
